***  NATIONAL NURSING HOME WEEK

National Nursing Home week occurred May 9-13th this year.  The ‘Spirit of DCC’ and current DCC visited nursing homes in the North Texas area.  On Saturday, May 7th, we visited The Gardens of Richardson and Cottonwood Estates in Plano.  We arrived in the Cowboys motorcoach, which caused traffic delays everywhere we went, and several ‘Spirit’ members brought their children along to visit and were the hit of the day!  Megan Sims Flowers (DCC 1998, 99, 00, 01) son even brought mums to share.  Several of the folks told us “we’ll look for you on the sidelines this fall!” which brought a smile to our faces.... we could only wish...

****  THE CROWLEY INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL TALENT SHOW

Kim McKenney Milam (DCC 1978, 79) and Tammie Curren Carruthers (DCC 1987) served as ‘celebrity judges’ for the first ever Crowley Intermediate School Talent Show!  I bet they were more ‘Paula Abdul’ than ‘Simon Cowell’!  The Overall winner was a boy that performed an awesome hip hop routine and the Most Creative performance was a girl playing a piece she composed on the piano.  Her mom said she had been composing since she was 6.  Thanks for volunteering your time ladies!

Spirit of DCC-

The DCC Alumni Association visited nursing homes during National Nursing Home Week in May and the photos tell it all…..

The alumni who attended represented squads from the ‘80s through ‘00s.  When I received the photos, I've never been so proud.

The smiles on the resident’s faces are big; the smiles on the former cheerleaders faces are bigger….

Most humbling was the chalkboard in the background announcing the visit of the DCC.

Due to a scheduling conflict, the current DCC were unable to attend the visits.  Through the dedicated and volunteer efforts of Brooke Wicker Alexander, she rallied the alumni and invited them to attend the visits and bring their children so they might also share in the experience.

I think we have all had family members in assisted living or nursing homes and know the value of a visit, a listener of stories, a cheerful countenance to help pass the time......

The pictures are worth a thousand words- the smiles, the hugs, and  the moments shared are so real.

I’ve always said that the glory and glamour days of current DCC might fade a bit, but the most meaningful and memorable experiences are the visits to nursing homes, hospitals, and USO Tours.

Thank you to the alumni that shared this day with the wonderful residents.  Thank you, Debbie Bond, for creating the purpose and tradition of nursing home visits.

Thank you DCC alumni for truly embodying the "Spirit of DCC"……
