October- Where Are They Now?
After cheerleading, I went on to graduate from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX with a degree in Business. While a senior in college, I started my first business - a delivery and warehousing service. Having been a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader helped me get sales appointments but once I was there, I had to prove my company could provide the service! I grew the business from a small operation operating out of my dorm room to a Dallas-based business with 150 employees (14 years later). Growing the business and being able to provide jobs for many families was a great experience for me. The company was named by INC. Magazine, 3 years in a row, as one of the fastest growing companies in the U.S. We were also featured in Entrepreneur Magazine and Business Week.
After selling my first company, I stayed home for a few years with my four sons (my biggest and best accomplishment since my cheerleading days!) Once they were of school age, I went back to school to get my real estate license. Since 2002, I have been specializing in listing and selling foreclosed properties for banks. The best part of what I do is being able to put people who previously could not afford to purchase a home into a new one at a great price! I placed over 5,500 families in homes in my real estate career and now have three offices in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, and Austin, TX. My next big goal is to get my training book published so I can train real estate agents in the foreclosure business, develop programs to help families faced with foreclosure, and help those looking to buy their first home.
In my spare time, I love to spend time with my sons who are heavily into football, baseball, and track (pole vaulting). I work-out five days a week; running and lifting (very light!) weights.
Life is good and I look back on my cheerleading days as the start of a great life!
Sideline Q & A
If you could have one thing from when you were a Cheerleader, what would it be and why?
Aurora: I would love to have my old uniform. For one thing, I'd love to see if I could still fit in it! Plus, the uniforms have changed since I was a cheerleader. The old uniform was a true "hip hugger" which was very popular in the early eighties. It would be a lot of fun to show it to my kids!
What do you feel is your role as a DCC Alumni?
Aurora: Even though it has been 26 years since I was a cheerleader, people still ask for my autograph sometimes! I feel very proud to be part of this alumni group. My role as an alumni is to continue to do everything possible to "give back" to the community. I have been blessed with the opportunity to have an impact on people's lives and sometimes "having been a cheerleader" still puts a smile on people's faces.
What do you know now that you wish you'd known when you were a DCC?
Aurora: I was only nineteen years old when I was a cheerleader. As a teenager, I was so excited about the doors that would open as a DCC. I wish I could have used that opportunity back then, more wisely, and found more ways to help other people at that time. The older we grow, the more we appreciate the blessings we've received and look for ways in which we can bless others. I wish I had known that sooner in my life.

DCC HIGHLIGHTS:
My fondest memory from my cheerleading days was after my first football game. Leaving the tunnel of the stadium and as I reached the parking lot, there were hundreds of fans waiting for us and asking for our autograph!! I couldn't believe it and it still makes me smile thinking about it!
WHAT THE FANS DON’T KNOW?
My favorite way to spend a vacation is to hike up a mountain and read a book at the top of it! My favorite hiking spot is Big Bend National Park. Other than hiking, I love to read. I read everything I can get my hands on from mysteries, science fiction, autobiographies, Christian books, and motivational texts.
