Q1 Prayer Circle
Malia Morales, a current Rookie DCC, lost her sister to lung cancer on New Year’s Eve. She had only been diagnosed with the disease right before Thanksgiving. Please say a special prayer for her.
A special note from Ronda Cates Moren (DCC ’90-93, ’95-97, ’98):
It's been over a year since I was diagnosed and it was my alumni friends that helped me realize something was different. As you may remember, I routinely would lose my voice a few times a year after long tours or games...I expected it to be more of the same. But it was my fellow DCC that picked up that something was different. It was our Alumni Halftime when I saw all of the girls who knew me the best....there were more than a dozen that said something was different and that the voice that I did have was not like the past experiences. I had no idea...my Minnesota friends were new...they didn't know me like you girls. This was a big wake-up and I followed up our alumni weekend with a visit to the Dr. and they found the cancer.
We have tried several surgical attempts to remove it with laser treatments, but have failed. The cancer began to spread so we moved into the next step which is radiation of the vocal chords. I have just finished my treatments and am in recovery right now. We'll know if a few months if we got it! I'm hopeful and am not worried as I know God's got my back. You know how much I love to talk so I'm sure this is a simple test of my strength, but one that I will surely win.
What inspires me is my rescue work on the island of Puerto Rico. When I begin to look at the bigger picture, I'm lucky. I would be honored by any support from my fellow DCC to my favorite cause. www.scarpr.org
